Gardening For Birds and Wildlife

GETTING VERY CLOSE TO THE BIRDS AND ANIMALS

SHIRL’S GARDEN WATCH, a fascinating U.K. blog, features a nestbox with a camera in it, which enables SHIRL, and us, to see the daily progress of the nesting birds. She also has a “hedgehog feeding station,” which led her, last fall, to make a “hedgehog house” to shelter a young hedgehog too small to make it through the winter unaided. Those were some of the most fascinating blog posts I’ve seen.

A WILDLIFE REFUGE IN YOUR BACKYARD

CREATE A WILDLIFE HABITAT in your backyard, which yard need not be huge. Bill’s parents created one. It was eventually written up in the local newspaper, but before that it brought them much birdwatching pleasure. Here are details for creating one:

FORUMS FOR ATTRACTING WILDLIFE

THE WILDLIFE GARDEN. The people in this forum are usually trying to attract birds, though I see posts about bunnies and turtles.

Click below to enjoy the camaraderie of other people who want to attract the birds and the butterflies:

SPACE FOR NATURE. This British “garden biodiversity forum” is simply a treasure trove of information on “living with mammals” and other forms of wildlife.
