The World’s Greatest Gardens
The Japanese ideal is that of natural tranquility, of creating in a small space the illusion that one is surrounded by the wilds of nature. They use few flowers; their effects are from rocks, water, leaves. You’ll find below some of the truly great ones. Notice that, by clicking on the arrows to the left of each garden photo, you can view the garden from different angles. http://learn.bowdoin.edu/japanesegardens/gardens/intro/index.html The British have created hundreds of beauties, but most of the gardens do not have really good, large photos you can view online. I did find one glorious site, INVECTIS, that does something like justice to the world-famous gardens at Sissinghurst Castle: http://www.invectis.co.uk/sissing/ MOOSEY’S COUNTRY GARDEN MOOSEY’s New Zealand garden is very much a labor of love in the British gardening tradition. MOOSEY says she provides “a country sanctuary for unwanted roses, shrubs, and small moveable trees.” In other words, it’s not a heartlessly perfect showcase, but an ever expanding source of surprise and beauty that makes room for many cats, some dogs, and the occasional sheep. http://www.mooseyscountrygarden.com/ |
