Freeze A Keylogger With A Firewall

FREEZE THAT KEYLOGGER WITH A FIREWALL

Keyloggers are the latest tool of Internet criminals. It’s easy to get one on your computer, and unfortunately neither an antivirus nor anti-spyware program can always identify it. The keylogger slides silently onto your computer (especially one that does not have its Microsoft patches) when you are cruising about popular websites. It lies quietly in the computer until you type in financial information. Then it springs to life, records all your keystrokes, and “phones home” to the criminal hacker with your private financial information. The criminal uses this information to wipe you out.

To get an accurate and scary overview of the situation, read Andrew Brandt’s “Security Watch” column for PC World:

Brandt says that, to be safe from keyloggers, you should:

     1. Cycle passwords, and don't use the same name and password at multiple sites.

     2. Use a firewall that can keep keyloggers from “phoning home” to the criminals who installed them. The free Comodo and ZoneAlarm firewalls can do this; the built-in Windows XP and Windows Vista firewalls can’t.

If you get top-rated SPYWARE DOCTOR antispyware, you’ll find that its manufacturer, PC TOOLS, has a free firewall that works well with it:
